Three Upwork video proposal examples you can adapt
Show the client one thing they can judge on screen. For a WordPress fix, that could be how you reproduce a bug. For a redesign, show a decision you made on a similar page. For tracking setup, show how you verify that a test action was recorded.
Record one script per service. Use it to explain how you work. Put the job details and any questions in the written proposal.
What to say in an Upwork video proposal
- Name the service. Tell the client what kind of work you can help with.
- Explain how you work. Describe the first step you’d take on a job in that category.
- Tell them what they’ll see. Explain how you’ll show the fix, share the design direction, or verify the tracking.
Read each script as written. Save the recording and reuse it whenever you apply for that type of work.
1. WordPress fixes
The brief. The client needs help with something that’s broken on their WordPress site, such as a layout, form, or plugin feature.
What to show. Show the issue if you can see it, a relevant past fix, or a short demo of your first check. Point out what you’d look for and how you’d verify the fix.
Read this script as written
“I can help with the WordPress work. I’d start by reviewing the affected part of the site and checking what’s causing the issue. Then I’d make the fix and test the parts of the site it could affect. I’ll show you what changed and how I checked it.”
When you send it. Pair the recording with a relevant job view or work sample. If you need details to reproduce the issue, ask in the written proposal.
2. Website redesign
The brief. The client wants to update their website. The work could involve one landing page or several pages across the site.
What to show. Show one relevant design decision. Use an existing sample, a page from the brief, or a quick sketch to explain what you’d change and why.

“I can help with the website redesign. I’d start by reviewing the current site and agreeing on what the new design needs to achieve. Then I’d share a design direction so we can review it together before I take it further.”
When you send it. Use the goal from the brief when it’s given. Ask about whatever would change your approach, such as priority pages, brand direction, or what needs to stay.
3. Website tracking and conversion setup
The brief. The client wants to measure an action on their site, such as a submitted form, a booked call, or a completed purchase.
What to show. Show a sample event, a test action and its result, or a simple map of what gets recorded and where. Use a demo or material you have permission to share.

“I can help with your website tracking. I’d start by checking what’s already being measured and confirming which actions matter to you. Then I’d set up or adjust the tracking and run a test to show you where the results appear.”
When you send it. Name the tools if the client lists them. For a lead form, use a successful submission as your example. For purchase tracking, use a test order and show how you check for duplicate events.
How to include a video in your written proposal
Lead with your fit for the job and answer the screening questions in writing. Introduce the video with one line that tells the client what they’ll see. For a tracking job, try “I recorded a short walkthrough showing how I verify that a conversion is recorded.”
A video earns its place when the client can see something useful happen. If your video would just repeat the cover letter, send the written pitch with a relevant work sample. If you’re still deciding whether the job fits, use the job-fit checklist first. If clients rarely open your pitches, review the guide to proposals not getting viewed.
Before you send
- Play the recording back and check that your screen is readable and your voice is clear.
- Open the share page in a private window to check what the client can see.
- Remove confidential data and contact details from the recording and share page.
- Follow Upwork’s proposal instructions and keep pre-contract conversations on Upwork.
